In the meticulous and precious world of jewelry, some paths are drawn with clarity, while others are the result of a personal quest. This is the case for Emmy, a second-year student at the Haute École de Joaillerie, who is determinedly preparing for her Advanced Jewelry Certificate.

An Unconventional Journey Guided by Creativity

Today, Emmy skillfully handles the jeweler's saw and bench pin, but her path to jewelry-making wasn’t always clear. "After earning my high school diploma with an international American distinction, I started a law degree at Assas. I was attracted to the structured nature of the field, but I deeply missed creativity." Gradually, the realization became evident: what she truly loved was shaping, transforming raw materials, and creating with her hands. "What fascinates me the most is turning raw materials into a piece of jewelry that can be passed down through generations and tell a story."

A childhood memory still resonates with her. "When I was nine, I lost my mother’s diamond earrings. I promised myself that one day, I would give her a new pair. Today, not only can I keep that promise, but I can make them myself."

Craftsmanship: A Skill to Preserve and Modernize

Jewelry-making is a profession of excellence that requires patience and mastery. Emmy affirms this with passion: "Every piece we create is the result of rigorous training and a heritage passed down from generation to generation."

While she acknowledges the importance of preserving traditional techniques, she also sees innovation as a necessary tool. "Today, modern tools like 3D printing or digital modeling can complement, but never replace, manual craftsmanship." A delicate balance between tradition and modernity ensures the continuity of expertise.

Aspirations for Excellence and Knowledge Sharing

Emmy has no intention of stopping there. "I would like to work for several jewelry houses to acquire as much expertise as possible and understand the different approaches to the craft." Since each house has its own identity, she believes this diversity is essential for enriching her artistic and technical vision.

But her ambition doesn’t stop at creation. "I am also very drawn to teaching. One day, I would love to become a professor at the Haute École de Joaillerie. Passing on knowledge, helping students progress, and instilling a passion for the craft would be an immense source of pride for me."

The Paula Program: A Springboard to the Future

Aware of the difficulties in accessing knowledge outside of formal education, Emmy sees the Paula Program as an essential initiative. "Young people are often pushed toward very general studies. Having access to advice from experienced artisans would help them better understand the realities of the profession."

Curious and eager to learn, she would like to deepen her knowledge of stone setting but also explore other fields such as perfumery or leatherwork. "These exchanges are essential for better understanding the intricacies of our trades."

A Message of Inspiration

For young people hesitant to take the plunge, Emmy has simple but powerful advice: "Listen to yourself. This profession requires hard work and patience, but it is incredibly rewarding. Seeing a creation take shape under your fingers is a unique feeling. And we are lucky to be in France, the perfect country to learn artistic and manual trades."

As for artisans reluctant to share their knowledge, she encourages them: "Passing on expertise is a gift. By sharing their skills, they allow new generations to evolve the profession while preserving its authenticity."

With her talent, passion, and dedication, Emmy represents a new generation of artisans restoring jewelry-making to its former glory. A rising star to watch closely.
